September Is Prime Time on the Bay

The humidity breaks, the sea nettles thin out, the weekend crowds head home, and the first cold fronts bring steady northwesterlies that make for some of the best sailing of the year. The water stays warm well into October.
The trade-off is daylight. Sunset comes a couple of minutes earlier every day now, so plan your return with a margin and make sure your navigation lights are working before you need them. Pack a layer or two for the ride home — the air cools quickly on the water once the sun is down.
