Sunset Comes Early Now
Clocks fell back over the weekend, and the change is felt most on the water. Sunset on the Chesapeake now comes before 5 p.m., and it keeps creeping earlier until late December. A trip that would have ended comfortably in daylight a week ago can now finish in the dark.
Plan to be back at the dock with time to spare, and turn your navigation lights on before you need them. Check that every light works, keep a flashlight within reach of the helm, and remember that crab pot floats, debris, and day markers are much harder to see at dusk. Air temperatures drop quickly once the sun goes down, so pack an extra layer for the ride home.
