St. Michaels is the classic Eastern Shore overnight from the South River — across the Bay, up Eastern Bay, and into the Miles River, a comfortable half-day cruise for most boats. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, the waterfront restaurants, and the walkable town make it an easy place to spend a night or two.
Fall is the best time to go: cooler weather, thinner crowds, and lively weekends in town. Marinas and the museum dock take overnight guests, or anchor in San Domingo Creek on the back side of town and dinghy to the public landing. Mind the shoals off Kent Point and Bloody Point Bar on the crossing, and keep an eye on your chart in Eastern Bay.
