Perseid Meteor Shower This Week

The Perseid meteor shower peaks the night of August 12 into the early morning of August 13. At its peak, the shower can produce 50 to 100 meteors an hour under dark skies — and one of the best possible viewing spots is at anchor on the Bay, well away from shore lights.

For the best show, get out on the water after 10pm and let your eyes adjust for at least 20 minutes. Look toward the northeast, where the constellation Perseus rises. Bring warm layers — even August nights can feel cool on the water — and a red-light flashlight to protect your night vision. It's one of the year's best reasons to plan an overnight aboard.
